Did the same ole thing. Got off work jammed down to the river for a 45 minute session...

Things were slow.

Caught two rather stripped up chum, then finally a nice brighter Chum that gave up a little fight as most brighter chums doo, one was on a green #5 fox, and the others I banged down with a jig using the chum bounce, chum cha chum chum CHUM!!! The bigger one played like a pro, so I felt obligated to use the action pic!

I then wound up pounding down a semi chrome coho. I was pretty suprised to catch such a bright 'ho this late so that was fun. Again on a jig using the coho twitch. Not to be confused with the Chum bounce. That goes something like Flick ca reel, reel twitch.

All fish were released without harm. I don't keep chum (period) but I contemplated keeping the coho. After a quick mental calculation I realized that my freezer and fridge have plenty of fish, family is not asking anymore since they have plenty so this girl went back to the gene pool.

All in all it was a good break from work before heading home. I was going to rate it a 3 but I realized that 4 fish in 40 minutes is better than some other days I have rated 3's. I did not make it out today so I am going to go out tomorrow afternoon after tidal change and see if I can find some brighter fish. Which is funny because I swing into the auburn zone every now and then and like everyone I catch a crap load but the fish are just not that bright. I think it is weird that so many people are keeping these dark fish when you can drive a few miles further to catch nicer ones but then again I am just a snob when it comes to tastebuds...

Keep em tight. If I could up load another photo I would show off my new Chum jig, it is sickulous and makes them go wild but alas only two photos per report... till next time

Right on!!!! Sickulous? Now that is a sick word. Love it! You might want to check with Mike to see if you can make a supplemental report in the River section to post the extra photos.

Gotta love the jigs! If you have time, try the Puyallup. The silvers will probably be in there till December. I would like to see that chum jig, I'm gonna start tyin some up not sure on pattern. Might just go up to 1/4 ounce so I can cast them on my baitcaster with heavier line. Thanks for the report.

I am going to hit the river again today, I will post a pic of a couple hot jig patterns on that report when I get back. My jigging style is not for everyone though, and although my steelhead designs work under a float most of my salmon jigs are really big and flashy so I usually free drift them or just pull them out in slower water and holes. I have been to the puyallup but it is an hour from my house so I figure that if I am going to go there I will hit the Carbon or the Sky and drive an extra few minutes. I prefer those rivers because I do alot of whitewater kayaking so I can get into really sweet spots where there is not another soul! That and I don't know the puyallup well so when i have been there it has been elbow to elbow and I would rather catch less fish in solitude.

Oh and btw: all my jigs are either 1/4 or 3/8. I made a custom mold too that is right inbetween the two. I prefer the heavy styles, cast better, sink and twitch faster and since I run 2/0 owner hooks they run better. 1/8 oz are pretty impossible to present well with a hook that big, they loose balance and don't have the right action.
