Debated whether to take the long venture down to the Humptulips but the latest report from my guide friend was that it had cooled off substantially so decided to try the Satsop with a buddy who has a drift boat. Put in at Hwy 12 and used an electric motor to go upstream a ways. Confidence was low because the parking lot and launch were completely empty but we tried all the usual spots by the bridges with no luck and no jumpers seen. This continued upstream until we found a back eddy and some slack water that reminded me of spots a guide had shown me on the Hump that were great spots for twitching jigs. My buddy is twitching intolerant so he put on a large dick nite and proceeded to hit a nice 11 lber on his second cast....wow! I moved farther up the slack water and started twitching and quickly hooked and lost a small chrome coho. Bummer. Then my buddy hits another large coho but can't keep it because it is a native....you can keep one native and his first fish was wild. Of course smack talking started up and I was questioning my methods when I hooked and landed a nice 11 lb wild coho. Followed by several more hookups and the landing of a darker buck coho. Back he goes because my first fish was native as was he. Things quickly cooled off after that but we were happy with the results but couldn't catch our hatchery cohos to round out our limits. Might try it again tomorrow.

Your livin the life I tell ya! Good job man! You've got this twitching for coho thing down. I've tried it a few times but don't think I have been in the right water for it yet..

That is one thing I hate about these Man Made sloughs we have over here. They don't have the backwater that the OP has. That type of water is Jigging paradise. I still twitch and bounce jigs over here but it does not produce the same frenzy on most days. And man I have a sweet spot in my heart for Jigs. I know the back water you hit too, there are about 8 different spots on that stretch that always produce! Great report. I can't wait to get back over there for some chum action.
