Another short trip. Took my dad with me and fished the afternoon incoming tide. Launched at Rotary at 3pm and ran up to the sand wall down from Snohomish. Trolled upstream and dad hooked into a nice silver just below the Highway 9 bridge. After a fairly long fight he gets it right next to the boat, I have the net in my hand and the fish stickes it's head above the surface and gives a shake, and the hook pops out of his mouth. I make a desparate stab with the net, almost throwing myself into the water. The boat turns so the net is around the curve of the bow of the boat so I can't see. My knee is on the top of the boat holding most of my weight. I got the long handled net by the very end of the handle, and I try pulling it up just in case I managed to catch the fish, and I just can't lift it because it is so heavy, so I know I have the fish in there. My dad doesn't know and starts voicing his frustration with losing a fish, and I have to tell him "Its okay! Its okay! HELP! He grabs the net and pulls in the fish as I narrowly avoid falling overboard. We both stood there in disbelief for a few seconds before taking care of the catch, a nice fat 8 pound coho. Trolled for a little bit longer before giving in to the chilly fall day we were not quite dressed for.
