So after all of this fun we've had with Pink Salmon and knowing that the rain over the weekend had pushed a mess of fish into the river, it was time to go after a new target.

Headed down to the river at about 10AM and found the water moving quite swiftly from the rain runoff as well as having the tide receding. Buddy I was there with was using a jig and I was tossing a spoon through our normal little run.

Caught a few male pinks between the two of us and they were obvious fresh fish moving up from the rains. Then all of a sudden....no action at all. I'm scanning the water trying to see if the seal had made it's way up river and shut the fish down again, but no sign of him. Oh well....keep plugging away.

11:15 and I get a good thump on the spoon. Set the hook and it's game on. Initially, the fish didn't react as you would think a Coho would, but something told me this wasn't a pink. Very heavy and simply would not turn. Makes a shallow run to the middle of the river and I knew what it was. Got the fish to turn toward the bank and caught up with all the line. Thumbed the spool to make sure I could control the fish a bit better and into the net she went.

OMG is all that would come out for the next 3 minutes. It was a hen and she was big. Just over 8 pounds and as chrome as they get. I failed in the picture to place the rod next to her for prospective, but yeah....thick and bright. She's going on the grill in an hour.

Proceeded to lose 2 more Coho on the standard, Strike, run, jump spit method that they seem to enjoy employing. Will be back out for more. Have a good feeling the freezer will have a comfortable supply of salmon very soon.
