Lousy day on the Duwi. Not so much the fishin but more the fish gods bent me over and rammed me good. Fished the lower part of the river by the foot bridge at the end of out going tide and incoming. Not alot of fish jumpin and the pinks seemed pretty thin. But the bite was on just about everybody caught a fish or two in the 3 hours i was down there.

First hit of the day was a very good sized king atleast 15 to 20lbs. He put up a hell of a fight and was gonna be first king of the year. I know you cant keep kings on the Green but they are still fun to catch. After fighting him for about 5 or 6 miinutes some yahoo fishing from the foot bridge dropped his jig right on top of my fish. It tangled in my line and the added pressure was to much and the line snapped right at the lure. I dont know why he did it. It was really obvious i was fighting the fish. I think he saw it on the surface and thought he could snag it. After that fiasco i lost 2 brand new dick nites in a row to snags. My attitude at that point was pretty sour but sure enuff i hooked a second king. Same as the first he was all over the place and larger. After about 5 minutes i had worked him into a stand off were he was holding just above the rapids and i knew if he went in there it was game over. I had to slam the brakes on him but i had him at a bad angle and my rod made a few cracking sounds. At that point i had no choice but to break him off. After that i lost 2 more dick nites to snags so my total was up to 6. So i hung it up for the day. I did mange to land 5 pinks but that was little reward for a crap day.

Were you using an orange rod? Think I saw you fighting that first king, that SOB was large, also saw that clown drop his jig right on you...what a kook.

Yeah its orange ish. Its a 10' 6" Okuma SST its only a medium light rod so i have to be careful with big fish. Whats funny i hooked both of the kings on a wee size dick nite with the stock hook which is maybe a size 6 (tiny) and they both hammered it.

If nothing else you got some adrenalin rush. Broken rods certainly suck (hey, at least U didn't break it on a lousy pink LOL!). If it aint broke, those cracking sounds may come back to harm you later when you least want it. Hmm, seems your rod is familiar to what Gringo Pescador fishes as I recall. Great minds I guess?
A little surprised 'nooks are still playing in the river that low. Those things can do damage to light pink gear. Maybe you are onto something with finesse fishing for big chinook and hooking up...
