Rollin with Rolland
9/3/2011 12:47:00 PMI had the same experience the last couple pink runs in the skagit. I would go out there, plunk sand shrimp, score a couple pinks, and miss a dozen or two "nibbles". For the life of me, I could not figure out why I could only hook 1 in 8 "pinks". Finally, i got smart. Throw on a much smaller hook and find out what these nibbles are. One assumes that only pinks are in the river, and if a fish bites, it must be a pink. Well, not always the case. The river is loaded with suckers. when fishing with bait (sand shrimp for example) the suckers will "nibble" your sand shrimp right off. If it is a light nibble, more than likely a river sucker. If it is a real take down, salmon. Really not a problem overall, either go to artificials or just buy extra sand shrimp! Have fun, stay safe, respect others!!!
