WOW. We should've known this would happen---we got info that there was a fish planting at FishTrap Lake, and there were Triploids in the planting, too! Fishtrap Lake was just Okay just a year ago, when my neighbor and I fought the effects of eutrophication of Fishtrap Lake to bring home some great fish. THIS YEAR: WOW! Lemme explain: We set out (again) before sunrise, launching our shark-mouthed, aluminum leviathan from the Public Launch on the North End of the Lake. The smell of a campfire (again---this is becoming a tradition---thanks to the campers) wafted thru the air as we headed out onto the lake---and caught three fish, all Rainbows, before we were even 10 minutes into our fishing expedition!! I think the fish were having fistfights to get on our lures...We limited-out within an hour-and-a-half, catching fish no shorter than 13". All but one of them were Rainbows; there was a solitary Silver that wandered into the fray. Deja-Vu department: We had this sort of fish-catching thing happen at Fishtrap Lake a couple of years ago--only it was with Bluegill. WDFW: whatever you did for this lake this year, Thanks! And: KEEP IT UP. Not too many boats on the lake when we put in, but LOTS of people fishing from the shoreline. When we finished fishing---er---CATCHING... Lots of boats had garnered their particular part of the lake. What worked to catch 'em? I think you could've used a plug of tobacco on a paper clip and STILL have caught one or two fish! The water seemed clearer than last year, and even though there is paranoia about a drought, the lake level did not appear to be too low (judging by the previous years' water staining on the rocks)
