Started at the Cascade for Silvers bright and early. Second cast, bobber down looked to be about a 12lb buck that I ended up breaking off. Fished all day with my buddy and he ended up landing 4 silvers (all to dark to keep so back in the drink) and I only managed to land a 14 inch jack. A few other guys there fishing the hatchery with us and everyone was hooking into nice sized fish...they were all mainly to dark to want to keep though. After awhile we decided to check out the skagit to see if the chum were in and boy were they. Fish rolling and jumping everywhere. I've never fished for chum and have heard that they are great fighters which I ended up learning first hand today. In a couple of hours we landed and released 10 chum (they are closed for the year and again to dark anyways). I caught 3 and my buddy 7. They averaged about 14lbs...9 being the smallest and 20 being the biggest. My first ever chum went 18lbs which also happens to be the largest fish I have ever caught....kinda sad seeing how I have been salmon fishing since I was 5 but not complaining. Will be back tomorrow to do some more chum C&R fishing.
