Hit the Duwamish from 700-noon. Cold thick fog on the river until about 10am, then sunny and nice. Low tide was at 7:30. Hooked up a decent Coho at about 8am, spit the hook about 30 seconds later. About 9am a school came in, lots of boils an porpoising and I could see quite a few just under the surface. I thought they weren't acting like normal Coho, but didn,t think much of it. At about 10am I felt that familiar tic and set the hook, immediately that thing was running down stream with my drag screeming. Took about 100' of line (with me chanting "Woe! Woe! Woe!" before it turned and started coming back. I tried to hurry it up but it would have none of it. It just slowly came back to me, then kept on going upstream this time. Slower this time, but still in full control and always hugging the bottom. I figured I have a late king or had tail hooked a coho. Finally after about 10 minutes, it let me see it - CHUM. Took me another 5 minutes or so to get it to the bank - my guess it was about 20#. Pretty coloered up and the fins were already turning so I released him to go on about his business. Picked the wrong day to not have my camera with me! I think the whole school I saw was Chum, They were rising and porpiosing until I left at noon. Wish I could have put another coho on my catch card, but fighting that big ol chum on my 8# leader was a lot of fun!

figured it was chum when you described the surfacing and definetely when he hit! i have caught my fair share of chum on the D.
and they always hit like a freight train.. were you by the 112th? thought I'd hit if for an hour or so before I have to head to work tomorrow as the tides are good this week in AM.. was going to head to hwy 18 but didn't want to deal with the crowds
