Fished the stilly on Friday and finally caught my first silver. The bad news was the size, it was about 13 inches and I did not keep it. I thought it was a trout until I got a good look at it... it was a silver. I saw several fish jumping and rolling (mostly chum), hooked another small one but lost it before seeing it. I switched to a dick nite and not long after that BAM my reel started screaming and my rod bent over...up the river it goes... down the river it goes, flip flopping all over the place. Drift boat was trying to net it for me, but said the fish was too big and that it was a monster(the net was not the large salmon net)they offered to come get me to get me closer and to avoid the rocks that was between me and the fish, I started getting some of my line back and working the fish to me, after about 15 maybe even 20 minutes I finally got him calmed down enough to land, turns out to be a chum...a HUGE chum. Although I new I had to release him, I still grabbed my scale for a quick weighing. Just under 21 pounds. My record chum. Still have not caught a salmon I could keep this year....been out 6 times with out a keeper. Atleast I got to test my new okuma sst....It worked great. Maybe next week I can get a silver large enough to keep.

Nice report. Thats a huge fish... alot better than the tiny cutts im hooking into down there. Nice to hear you like the SST. I've been wanting to add one of those to my collection but heard a few poor reviews about them breaking easy. May have to convince the old lady to feed my addiction and get one.

scraig1962---I had no problem with it breaking and it was bent for a long strong fight. I got mine in burlington at wholesale sports, they had the best price I could find $59.99. If you haven't been there, check it out, awesome store and great prices.

Nice report - those are the fun battles even if you don't keep the fish. Regarding SSTs I have three, 2 10.5' MH and 1 10.5' ML float drift rods. You use the proper line rated for them and they are great. IMHO you cant beat em for the price.

Leif-liden--I was fishing under I-5, actually just slightly east of I-5,
Gringo Pescador -mine is the 9.5' L drifting I almost did not go with that one(light) because I thought the light action might be too light. While fighting that chum I thought that it would end up being in the 10-12 pound range and that the light pole was making it seem bigger and making for a better fight (as light poles can do)....it handled that chum great, and as far as breaking easy....it was bent over hard for a long battle and held up just fine. Can't beat them for the price!
