I got seriously hungry looking at Matt and Pilchuck's coho chromie fest on the river forum so I hit up the Tilton thinking maybe it was my turn to get lucky even though natetreat and I went 0 fer on the coho Monday. I waited and waited today w/o a coho. Foul hooked a chinook in th eswimming hole but gave up that area, just not my thing.

Dang nate, we missed 'em last go-round and today I ALMOST missed 'em. They came in late. My info was they'd be in good today but that was bad info.
Thank goodness for 'almost' and me sticking it out to see if the truck would arrive. Started pouring just at the time they dumped in the only load of the day there (mixed chinook/coho, more coho than 'nooks thankfully).
Had to release/break off 3 foul hooked. Limit is 6 hatchery coho where I was (no natives retention allowed).

I was soaked from the regular rain from being there about 9 AM on. Then the last couple hours got massively soaked. Every stitch of clothing soaked thru.
Didn't notice being soaked of course, nor notice not eating lunch or drinking anything.
Got home to the Mrs and she was about ready to scold me for being so wet...

Then I showed her these ;-)
And it was all good.

PS- Toni good to see U back on the water catchin'! More well wishes for you and yours. Hope all's well.

Good luck everyone.

nice looking fillets! great catch! way to stick it out, funny how easy it is to not notice things like being soaked, not eating, and not drinking, when your catching fish.

Wow congrats! That's awesome, not just a limit of trout, a limit of SALMON! You're makin me jealous there, I ended up at the stilly and saw2 lots of fish not getting hooked, except for a giant sucker. Nice fish man, and thanks for the report.

Just a couple things to add, in Packwood on the upper Cowl and at Lake Scanewa even more coho have been getting trucked up and put in from the Cow dam. This is not really river fishing IMO and is more salmon catching. The mix of people fishing is diverse so be patient with people. Some are well versed, some not. Some well versed people help out the less versed and/or remain patient and some want to moan and groan all day. Everyone gets to do what they want as long as it's within the rules and regs and this fishery is not for everyone. Everyone getting along makes it easier on everyone even if you aren't catching. Please let's all pick up after ourselves. While I was there it seemed everyone was getting along well and following the rules. It does get hectic when the fish get dumped but it is fun too. Keep an eye on the kids close to the fishing though with people casting many times and short drifts. I didn't have my daughter this time so concentrated solely on fishing.
Glad to know I'm not alone with the 'oops I forgot to eat, drink, pee', etc mentality LOL.

nate- I didn't get my limit but got 3. Still awesome though. The guy my family was with last go-round when we saw you Monday went down with me and he got 3 too so 3 of those were his. Don't know if you can tell but he slits the upper belly/throat with a knife to bleed the fish, says it's fast. I just rip the gills with my hand which is pretty fast although I cut my finger on the sharp bones inside the gill area.

Nice report. I would like to get to the Tilton. I was packed and ready to go on the Monday that I left for NC. Unpacked and never got there.
Thank you knotabassturd

Toni, it is fished differently than many rivers in some ways. I have been keeping track of my flossing catches (and my fishing buddy's too since I net his fish). Of those 6 fish we kept above, we got half of them inside the mouth in the way the antisnagging rules are written IMO. Only one was on the body but above the end of the gill plates. The other 2 were traditional floss going from outside to in mouth. 3 others were fouled and let go. One was a beaut (of the fouls darn it). The biggest up there (left side) was his and roughly was just over 14 pounds accdng to his calcs. I thought it was more like 12, but hey it was his fish :-)

I just realized I miswrote to Toni putting 'antisnagging' when I meant 'in the mouth' regs. 3 of those fish were hooked inside the mouth even though they were flossed. All of them were caught within antisnagging rules (hooks were 1/0 w/corky and yarn on hook more than 12 inches away). Wanted to clarify after rereading that! :-)

PS- also the river I don't think is an antisnagging water although they did put a night closure on it not long ago as I recall.
