SO I WENT TO THE LEWIS THIS WEEKEND WITH EVERY INTENTION ON SALMON FISHING. WELL I DIDN'T END UP DOING ANY AT ALL, AND HAD ONE OF THE BEST FISHING TRIPS EVER! SO THE PLAN WAS TO HIT THE LEWIS AND STAY IN COUGAR, STARTING TUES. AFTER CHECKING IN, MY WIFE AND I WHERE GOING TO GO DOWN TO THE HATCHERY AND SEE ABOUT SLAYING SOME SILVERS OR KINGS. ANYWAY LAST MINUTE CHANGE OF PLAN AND WE DECIDED TO GO UP TO SOME FALLS ABOUT 2 HOURS EAST OF WOODLAND. FIRST I JUST WANT TO SAY, LEWIS IS A FRICKING FISHING MECCA!!!!!!! THAT PLACE IS SO SICK!!!!!! (CAN YOU TELL MY EXCITEMENT? HAHAHAHA). THERE ARE RAD CREEKS EVERY WHERE, THE LOWER RIVER IS COVERED IN ALL KINDS OF SICK SPOTS FOR SALMON, STEELY'S, TROUT, AND THEN THE UPPER RIVER IS DAMMED INTO THREE LAKES/RIVERS FULL OF HUGE TROUT, TO INCLUDE BULL TROUT. PLUS THEY ARE OVER FLOWING WITH KOKANEE AS WELL. ANY WAYS BACK TO MY STORY. SO WE DRIVE UP TO THE FIRST SET OF FALLS AND ARE GREETED BY PROBABLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY OF MY LIFE! THERE IS 15 DIFFERENT WATERFALLS ALL WITH IN LIKE ONE HOUR OF EACH OTHER, AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS EPIC!!!!!! SO THE ONE WE FISHED WAS BY FAR THE BEST OF THEM ALL. MY WIFE AND I GET THERE AND THE PLACE IS EMPTY, NO CARS ANY WHERE, WE HAVE THIS NATURAL FISHING PLAYGROUND ALL TO OUR SELVES. WHICH BY THE WAY AT THIS POINT MY WIFE IS JUST LIKE, YOU ARE THE COOLEST GUY EVER, HOW DO YOU KNOW OF THESE SPOTS? I TELL HER, I KNOW WASHINGTON WILDERNESS LIKE IT'S MY BACKYARD. TRUTH IS I JUST SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THE INTERNET SCOUTING NEW SPOTS HAHAHAHAHA! SO WE GET OUR WADERS ON AND HEAD DOWN THE BEAUTIFUL TRAIL TO THE RIVER. OH AND BY THE WAY, WHILE WE WHERE THERE WE DID NOT SEE A SINGLE PIECE OF TRASH ON THE TRAILS OR DOWN AT THE RIVER, MY HAT GOES OFF TO THE PEOPLE WHO NOT ONLY FACILITATE THAT AREA, BUT THE VISITORS WHO STILL HAVE RESPECT FOR THE OUTDOORS (WHICH I WASN'T REALLY SURE EXISTED ANYMORE.) SO WE FINALLY GET DOWN TO THE WATER AND ARE GREETED BY A WATERFALL THAT IS ABOUT 20 FEET HIGH AND THE WIDTH OF THE RIVER. THE WATERFALL IS MADE UP OF TWO MAIN WATERFALLS OF DIFFERENT TYPES AND A LOT OF LITTLE ONES TO FILL THE REST OF IT. THE WATER IS CRYSTAL CLEAR AND LOADED WITH FISH. WE ARE FISHING BARBLESS ORANGE WEDDING RINGS THAT HAVE OWNER HOOKS IN PLACE OF THE STANDARD CRAPPY HOOKS THAT COME ON THEM, WITH NO BAIT PER THE REGS AND THE 20 SIGNS YOU SEE ON THE WAY IN HAHAHA! THE COOLEST THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THE FIRST HALF OF THE LAGOON IS MADE OF A SOLID SMOOTH LAVA ROCK LEDGE WITH WATER THAT IS ABOUT 6 INCHES DEEP. THAN AS YOU COME TO THE MIDDLE IT DROPS TO LIKE 10-15 FEET DEEP ALL THE WAY UP TO THE FALLS. WE STARTED TO FISH AND CAUGHT SO MANY FISH. AND THESE TROUT ARE HUGE!!!!!! THE WEATHER THAT DAY WAS PERFECT TOO, SUPER SUNNY AND WE SAW A HUGE BALD EAGLE FLY OVER HEAD WHILE WE FISHED. WE CAUGHT RAINBOWS AND CUTTIES ENDLESSLY. I WAS HOPING TO CATCH A BULL TROUT CAUSE I HAVE NEVER CAUGHT ONE BEFORE, BUT NO LUCK. AS FAR AS I KNOW THE PLACE HAS A FAIR AMOUNT CAUSE THERE ARE SIGNS EVERY WHERE SAYING NOT TO KEEP THEM, AND TO PUT THEM BACK IF YOU CATCH THEM. WHICH I DIDN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THAT WHOLE AREA IS BARBLESS, NO BAIT, AND CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. HUH? OH WELL.....SO WE FISHED TO DARK AND JUST KILLED IT. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND TIME MY WIFE HAS EVER FISHED, AND SHE ALREADY OUT FISHES ME LOL! FIRST TIME SHE CAUGHT TWO FAT KINGS ONE OF WHICH SHE LANDED, AND WAS LIKE 20-25 LBS. THIS TIME CATCHING AND LANDING JUST AS MANY TROUT AS ME. I GOT TO BE THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE, A SUPER HOT WIFE WHO LOVES ME, LOVES FISHING NOW, AND IS GOOD AT IT! WOW I SHOULD REFLECT MORE OFTEN :) SO ANY WAYS WE ARE TOTALLY GOING BACK THIS WEEKEND DUE TO THE TRIP BEING SO GREAT. WE WHERE GOING TO HIT THE RIVERS ON THE COSTAL OLYMPICS BUT HAVE SINCE CHANGED OUR MIND. I GUESS THE QUEETS IS ON HOLD. ALSO IF THERE ARE ANY HIKERS OUT THERE WE HIT THE APE CAVES WHILE WE WHERE THERE AS WELL AND IT WAS FRICKEN RAD! WE DID THE LOWER IN ABOUT AN HOUR, THE UPPER IN ABOUT 2 HOURS, AND THEN A 45 MIN FORREST HIKE ON THE WAY BACK. SO MUCH FUN THAT IS MY NEW FAVORITE AREA. WELL, SORRY THIS REPORT IS SO LONG BUT ANYONE WHO READS IT AND PUTS IT TO USE I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY AND WILL BE GREATLY REWARDED.

NO THE LEWIS RIVER AT THE SOUTH END OF WA STATE. YOU TAKE I-5 SOUTH TO EXIT 21 AND TAKE HWY 503 EAST AND IT BASICALLY RUNS ALONG ALL OF IT UNTILL YOU GET WAY UP RIVER, THAN IT IS MAINLY FSR 90 I THINK. A GREAT PLACE TO STAY IS THE LONE FIR RESORT. THIS IS IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAY WAY UP RIVER FOR THE FALLS, HIKING, APE CAVES, AND CRUZIN MT SAINT HELEN'S BACK COUNTRY. IF YOU ARE GOING FOR SALMON STAY LIKE IN WOODLAND AND FISH LOW ON THE RIVER, PLUS THE TOUTLE IS RIGHT UP THE FREEWAY AT HWY 504. THE TRIP WAS SO GOOD I AM SKIPPING MY PLANED TRIP TO O.P. AND GOING BACK UP THERE FOR THREE DAYS. WHEN AND IF YOU GO YOU WONT BE LET DOWN.
