Had to take advantage of the nice weather this week and made 2 trips up to POR, with my older son Tuesday and this afternoon with the wife. The water levels are up a couple feet and the sloughs are full of fish again, just like spring fishing! Both outings were successful with plenty of LMB and Pike action. Most Pike caught were small, about the size I'm holding, LMB averaged in the 3lb range. Did manage to get a hold one huge Pike, after a 10 min battle the wife made 2 attempts to net him, she was so afraid of how huge he was she only managed to get the front half of his body in the net, he rolled twice, got my crankbait stuck in the net and bolted! Urrgghh! Would have easily been my second largest freshwater fish ever caught...

Great report. There are some big ones in there and yes they are hard to land. How were the weeds in the sloughs? Are the colder nights starting to kill off the weed beds?

Thanks for the repot. Sounds like a great time. That slough in the pic is my all time favorite place to fish! It's amazing how many fish that thing holds. I'm heading up there in a couple weeks. Hopefully the water doesn't drop much. Maybe I'll see you up there some day.

Was in there again today and it produced more fish, nothing over 6lbs though, water was a little lower, the weeds in the sloughs aren't bad at all, may want to be careful in Davis Slough, the metal cattle fence's are starting to show...

Is the background in the pic Davis Slough? I've yet to fish in Davis as it was too low & weed choked in early September. I was back up there 5 days after I caught the 6lb 2oz LMB in my last POR post & Pat caught a 6lb 5oz LMB right under the Usk bridge, his camera batteries were dead so all we got was a few bad cell pics therefore it wasn't posted. I'm leaving for the Snake River @4:30am for some Smallies / Steelhead, & since I'm a hardcore bird hunter I think I'll bring a shotgun too. If the fishing gets slow I'll have Pat drop me off in one of the canyons for a few hours & see if I can't get in some wingshooting. The season for Chukar's, Hun's & Quail opened Oct. 2 I can't wait!! Pete Heley is writing a Washington bass book and had some questions about several of your reports. I don't give member e-mail addresses out so I was wondering, if your interested, would you give him a contact? His e-mail is:
