With the Stilly being the color of new born baby poop and in an attempt to save my afternoons fishing opportunity I ended up fishing the lower Skagit. Although the fish were less than cooperative it was a great afternoon. The river looked good, tides were right and friends Zack, Dave and Fred were on the same quest as I, a race to punch the first river coho of the year. Between the four of us we had a number of bites with at least 2 fish on. Personally I had a number of bites but they may have been trout or dollies. I did have a solid hook up resulting in a short run but it spit the hook. We did see a chinook in a seam above us and the fish I hooked did not act like a silver so it may have been the Chinook we saw earlier. Between the 4 of us we drift fished various color combinations of yarn and corkies and also drift fished Dick Nights or FST spoons. My fish hit a black/green corky/black yarn combo and the other fish hit a chartreuse Dick Night. All in all it was a good afternoon and a good primer for the next 2 months of chasing coho in our local rivers.
