Had a great day fishing the Stilly this morning with my brother. While I had no luck at all he landed a huge 30" hatchery steelhead around 8 to 10lbs estimated. The fight lasted about 5 minuites with the fish jumping out of the water several times. This is by far the biggest fish we have pulled out of the Stilly.

Yea it was a fresh fin clipped steelhead. The gill plate and body was pink and the tail was square with spots all over. Coho have spots on top of tail only. You can see the pink line from the side shot with my brother holding the fish.

That is one strange looking steelhead....my guess is a coho....notice the heavy body....summer steelhead are long and lean. Spots on the tail can vary.....a pinkish sheen on the sides is also a coho trait when just in from saltwater. Female also.

One strange looking steelhead indeed. Definitely looks like a coho from here. Notice the sliver pigment in the tail. Nice fish though. The Stilly opens for salmon tomorrow, can't wait to get out there.
