well our trip to the Columbia to try 'n murder a few poor defenceless springers was planed a few weeks ago.....conditions on the big C at daylight..winds blow'n bout 30 mph gust'n higher temp try'n to get to 40(dont even want to know what that makes the chill factor)rain'n like heck
we wuss'd out and went to the Cowlitz
dropped in at the old ramp a few miles above the Toutle and ran up a ways
try'd some "nice" seams 'n drifts with both corky yarn/egg/shrimp and bk troll'n warts (3 diff paterns at a time)lost a reallly nice hen in the wood after a realllly sexcite'n battle
yea all that wood theyve been throw'n over the dam from mayfield... we found it arrrgg
fired up and ran down to the toutle ...try'd the same stuff nuthin...cept the 30+ mph winds and a few 10 to 15 sec of FISH ON...then gone..bk troll'n warts
bailed and ran up to BlueCreek....hardly any 1 there cept a bunch of bank fisherpersons along that lil chute above the wall (where the creek comes out at i think) 1/2 doz trailers in the lot
try'd all the same things...2 on 2 lost..dannnnngit
saw some fish off loaded from boats at the ramp(guides drop'n off clients i think) saw 1 banky catch a fish and 1 guy in a boat all by himself who had about a 15 min fight with the fish and the boat and net'd a realllly nice bright hen( we cheer'd the anticks and the net job)right below the wall
annnnyways the only fish in our boat was the salmon sandwichs i brought LOL
we did catch a few sqaws 1 seemed to be injured after we C&R'd it and it swam away but im pretty sure he didnt make it and another that after be'n C&R'd just floated down river sorta flip'n and flop'n....pretty sure a young eagle picked it up down below us...was too slow with the cam sry
so anyways water levels were kinda low pretty clear and not a ton of fish...by the time we left 4ish there were maybe 10 trailers in the lot and twice that many rigs without trailers(the wind and rain had died down)
tight lines 'n strong knots ya'll ..DOG
