My son and I arrived at Barrier Dam a little before 5:30am. Met up with Bigsmooth and his bud Jeff. Goin_postal, Kinghunter, and Jerry were also fishing along side of us as well. I think numerous tickets would have been handed out to those that were fishing well before an hour before sunrise, our whole group waited but stood in the river until 5:52am to make our first casts.
I wasn't surprised with the amounts of anglers fishing this morning, but it was a battle dealing with the combat fishing scene. I wish there could be a handout or some info packet to inform anglers the do's and do not's in river fishing. I'll leave that discussion for later, but back to fishing. It was cool talking to Jeff for about 15 minutes while we had a double on and both battled Kings along side one another. His unfortunately was foul, so it was released, mine was still chrome and kept for my smoker. Bigsmooth weighed it and was 29.7lbs and 36 inches. The Coho pictured weighed 11lbs and 31 inches on the nose. Goin_postal had 2 nice chromers and Kinghunter even had a super cute smaller Coho in the cooler to take home. I think we all were pretty tired after today, the fishing was an exercise, but being sunkissed today was unexpected too.

Yep - I tangled ya'll a few times - my apologizes... It's my first year fishing and I'd appreciate any tips you can provide regarding the Cowlitz - colors, weight - I'm doing alright on the other rivers but found the Cowlitz very challenging as I couldn't feel any bites - UGGHHH... I thank the gentleman to my right, he was quite patient with this newbie fisher...

Nice fish. How many people were there? Anybody fishing on the island or was it under water?

Well I just got my question answered by looking at bigsmooths pic and report. Didn't look too bad as far as crowds. Nothing like the puyallup crowds. Thanks for the reports guys.

Curado, I've been giving the eggs away. (for future open seats on a sled)
gpc: Kennedy Creek, let's go!!
JFKies: Didn't you get a pic of your pig?? We probably could have exchanged recipes for chicken while fighting those pigs together- lol
t2cb1970: check your email
Nelly1: we want to get to that island so bad..I am tempted to see if my boat can make it upriver, I seen a 70hp motor like mine make it up there, I am sure everyone up that way was slaughtering those Chromers...

Ya, but the fog made it look like I was in a typhoon. You can barely see the fish. I took the picture of Big Smooth around 1:30 and the crowd had really thinned out from early morning.

jens your kid rocks at fishing, all my buddies kids get bored and play with the rocks, and when he had that pig on for awhile those ppl below us were saying "man he's still fighting that" like he should have it in by now,but they were just mad they're tuna rods and 80lb braid wasnt catching anything, plus your son wasnt giving anybody a chance with all those fish he kept hooking into.you taught him well!!!
