What an awesome day of fishing, Jens was right about the hug pigs in the river, I don't care if they are boots, they were still fun to catch. Met Jens and Dwizzle early in the morning and on my second cast caught this King (pic on the right), she was approx. 35", went up to the car to put her in the cooler (ice) and Postal just arrived in the parking lot. Went back out and first cast had fish on, this one felt much larger and just took off to the boat launch, must of took about 200 yards of my line out, fought the fish for about 15 minutes and then my line snapped from just below the swivel, damn it. I did managed to get into trouble with some rockfish and was really popular among the anglers for that. Later had a huge Silver on but jumped once and then shook the hook off. I did manage to go 2/5 more on those huge Kings but released them due to already had my limit of 1. Which I later found out you could keep 3 Kings, thanks alot Jens. Postal came dowm from fishing up closer to the dam and got 1 Silver which he gave to me. We headed back up there to fish and I got nothing but SNAGS. You really need to know what size weight to use there, did lose alot of gears there. Postal had to leave due to a really nasty bird's nest on his reel, pretty much lost his whole line. Jens secret spot is the place to go if you just want to catch fish, sometimes you will get lucky getting some Silvers. I was using a 12# main line and 12# leaders and now I'm thinking of going to 30# main and 20# leaders, you really need heavier lines for those big fish. I finished around 5:00pm and even though my arms and back were sore, I couldn't help thinking with a big smile, it was worth it.

ok for everyone i think for the big fish all you need is15# main line and 12# leader.if you have a smaller leader than your main you wont lose all your rig, just the hook witch will save a lot of money trust me and if your drag isnt set to tight you can use lighter line.the heaviest line i would use is 20# main and 15# leaders

30# braid for main line with 20lb mono leader will bring your fish in every time, and won't result in " fought the fish for about 15 minutes and then my line snapped from just below the swivel" :-)

You can totally get away with a lighter leader, I switched to 12lb Maxima, but depending on where you are fishing on the drift and if the other anglers are willing to get out of your way, then you can head down to the slack water and fight the pigs. If you have to try and horse one of these monsters in, as they say on the east coast, "Fah get about it.."

I was using 15 with a 12lb leader, but needed to cast further with less weight, so I switched to 12 main. Guy next to be had 8 main and 6 leader. He fought a big daddy for 25 minutes and ended up loosing him. Just no control with super light line. loosing post up when you all are heading back. I'd love to hook up.

yeah that was a fun day, and man was the cowlitz a beautiful river.....I use 15lbs maxima ultra green for my main or 15lbs p-line cxx. For my leaders i only use 12lbs p-line cxx. And you saw me pullin them boots in lol....I use 20-15 when the kings are in at the nisqually but now it seems the lighter the leader the more it doesn't tend to float. But thats just me and i had a good time gents,
