Went fishing for pinks this AM on the Skagit out toward Fir Island, just about a mile past Blake's resort. I've never seen so many fish jumping in my life. It was absolutely stunning to see. There were thousands jumping, and only about 20 feet from shore. We were on the shady side, so fish were jumping, sometimes 3 or 4 at a time, every 10 seconds.
The spot is beautiful, with trees, and a path running parallel to the river, with many little paths going down to the beach, which was about 15 feet wide before high tide. So even though there were lots of people there, you don't see them - nothing like fishing from a sandbar.
However, we didn't get ONE bite. I couldn't believe that there could be so many fish in the river, and one wouldn't accidently bite. And we tried everything.
So it was a wonderful morning, and I'm still mesmerized by seeing so many pinks.
And, since I caught NOTHING, I can go back fishing tonight!
