I arrived at the river about 11:00 a.m. and started scouting out the waters since it was my first time on this river. There were a few PMD's hatching and several caddis flies, both tan and brown in color. The water temperature was 50º in the stretches about 5 miles below the dam. The air temperature was in the mid 70's with partly cloudy skies and a light variable wind. The first section I fished was about 5 miles below the dam. I caught a nice brown on a brown colored elk hair caddis in the first 10 minutes on the water. After leaving there, I moved up the river to the state park, about 1/4 mile downstream from the dam. The water was cooler in that location, reading 47º
I hooked and landed two more browns, each about 20". These were caught on a Zebra midge as a dropper. All three fish were in good condition and revived and released easily. The Owyhee River is a beautiful river running through a large canyon. The scenery is fantastic which makes fishing this river a real treat.
