Went fishing on the Pend Oreille River on August 2 and 3. Caught 1 pike between 21 & 24" on Saturday. I met up with Gone Fishin on Sunday and he showed me around to a couple of spots. It was hard going at first but around 9 am caught my first pike of the day. I was unable to land it because I forgot I wasn't using a spinnerbait anymore and didn't have a leader on. So a feisty 30+" bite me off and took my lure with him. Went to the other side of the river and to fish and landed a smallmouth (Gone Fishin landed a squawfish as I was pulling up my smallmouth). 10 minutes after the smallmouth I landed this 31" pike on roids (no joke probably one of the strongest pike I ever fought). After no luck for about 30 minutes we went up river and found a slough with a few more small pike. Gone Fishin landed a 21-24" pike and had a few missed strikes as well as myself. Unfortunately by this time I had to head back to the westside. I will definitely be back there this fall or next spring.

all fish were released.

When I was up there the sloughs were pretty shallow and weedy. Were they still up in the sloughs or were you just fishing in the general area on the man river. I tore my boat up when i am up there so shallow sloughs make me nervous right now.

It appeared the smaller pike were still in the sloughs although that was dependent upon the depth. the 2 pike I landed came from the main river weeds but the action was sporadic. Once we got into the a decent slough, we had pretty consistent action.

This report should be a 5,at this point...I havn't even seen a pike this year. OK,I'm just jealous. Nice work...now when are WE going back? LOL
I've already been trying to make some new pike lures but they suck.
