I decided to hit the South Fork of Stilly for a while today. The weather was a nice sunny 76, water temp was prolly 50 degrees. I'm not sure. I got down to the secret hole, up past redbrige on mty loop hwy where I have seen stellhead jumping before. So i figured I would go make a few casts before, I got up to my trout spot, Wow what an unexpected ordeal, First cast I let the spinner hit bottom and started reeling, instantly ran across a 10 or 11 inch rainbow, Then what do you know I casted into the rapid and started reeling my rooster tail, and It hit like a ton of bricks, That sucker flew out of the water prolly three feet easy, and It was a 10 minute battle. I was using ultra light tackle, thank god I had braided line, 10 lb test, Or I would have lost her. Anyway I got this beast, and nothing else the rest of the day!!!!! I love Summer steelhead,.. Nice native C&R. beautiful fish. Have no bad feelings watching it go.. I want plenty more of these in our rivers, There a dying breed

Yeah Ive always done well in the river, throwing small gold and black rapala, dick knights, Rooster tails, pink and purple. Or just a nightcrawler by itslef no wieght, and let it drift down the rapids. Be sure to check if you can use bait before you do. Also I always do well with mosquto flys, royoal wolfs, royal coahman. caddis, and alot of others. I would try the sount fork of the stillaguamish, North fork of the stilly is flyfishing only. I also do well in small steams and creeks. Olney creek on sutlan basin road. Theres tons of spots, you juat have to cast and cast. Ive fished all day before and didnt get a bite,. Good lick out there, try the mountain loop hwy. Great fishign
