Took a drive out to hoodsport today to check if the kings have made it this far yet. In the half hour I was there I counted 2 kings about 16-18 inches heading to the ladder at finch creek. Hopefully a couple more weeks and the south canal will kick off.

How do you typically target chinook from the shore? I'm going to be staying there in a couple of weeks and would love a chance to go after a few!

Well I fish from a boat out there. Fishing from shore there can be hectic due to the volume of people, and with the fact that the skokomish river is closed to non-tribal members I can only imagine the mass of people that fished that river will flock to the hatchery. Most people use a yarn and corkie set up as well as buzz bombs. It will be a very small channel that you will be fishing in as marked by the buoys. You Tube might have some videos of the hatchery so you could see what I'm talking about. I'd say if you have enough patience give it a try and enjoy yourself.

I'll be staying at a place with a private beach that's somebody nearby the hatchery from what I could research. Would you say that the best opportunities are strictly at the harchery from shore? Thanks a bunch.

Not at all granted the fish have come this far down yet. Not sure exactly when you are staying but the fish are usually there the first week or two of August. If you see people fishing then there is a good chance that the fish are there. Just watch for Native nets out there will be a lot of them!
