Took another neighbor back to Hoodsport Hatchery for some wild chum fishing. Last Wednesday was great but this was even better. Launched at the power station at 7:30am. Low tide was about 9:30am. Started with the small herring but the chum were not interested so went to throwing twitching jigs. Three casts netted three fish on a home-made green colored jig I made over the weekend. My neighbor wasn't catching anything so I gave him my pole and he got hooked up. I tried another home-made jig on another pole and started getting fish. For three hours we were constantly hooked up with many doubles. Since this was a catch and release trip, every fish was returned to spawn out. At 11:00am, I stopped to eat lunch and started using the herring and float again. Action was much slower. I did notice that fisherman using the smaller anchovies were getting more action. They were also using smaller floats. I initially used 30# double hook rigs but switched over to 20# which increased our action. We stuck with the herring and did catch around 8 large chum. I used a green dye on the herring but I don't think it triggered a better bite. We were fishing 100 yards north of the hatchery in 6-8 feet of water running the bait 3-4 feet below the float. When the tide came in about 2:00pm, we moved closer to the shore since the fish were moving along the edge. I guessing we caught and released at least 35 fish for the day. Days like this make up for all the 1 fish per boat days.

Great report with lots of good information - thanks for sharing the info on jig color and the herring/anchovy info.
