On 9/27. Beach fly fishing quest or Boat trip?
Today the wife wanted to fish again. Which makes this a boat trip, beach fly fishing would have to wait. Launched from Shilshole at 7am, lines in the water by 7:30. Taking a Northerly heading, the wind was calm. Lots of shakers, mixed within a keeper fish or two. Counted beach fishermen as we trolled our way by. A combination of 15..........no 16 gear and fly guy's counted.
Rounding the green can at Meadow point. Our first hook up and landed fish! Followed by a few shakers.
Then a double header at 8:30. I have watched other fellers in this situation fumble with unhooking their netted fish while the other fish is left in the water waiting for the net. I have found it easier to net the first fish to the boat, while keeping the line tight on the second fish, by reeling in slower than the first fish. Net the first fish, leave plenty of slack line, placing that rod in the holder. Hand off the rod. Then, net the second fish and deal with two fish in the net at once. Done correctly, the first fish stays near the bottom of the net.
3 fish in the boat. Followed by more shaker kings in the 16" range. A fish comes unbuttoned for me. Then the wife lands our fourth fish at 9:15. All 3.5 to 4.5lb fish as weighed on a digital scale at home. 2nd boat limit in a row.
