Decided to try something different today from the beach. I've done very well this year with a yellow/green buzz bomb with a pink hoochie. Today I tried a herring under a bobber. I did bring my other pole rigged with the buzz bomb just in case. Broke out the 9 foot Kufa I've had for years. Figured it would be a bit better to use with a float due to it being a bit longer and having a fairly stiff tip. There was a good current so figured this might be good. All around me fish being landed on rotators and crippled herring. No action for me yet. Watched one guy limit in 20 minutes while each of his buddies each had one. I start staring at my other pole... then... bobber down, set the hook and start reeling. Not much fight going one. Thinking I may have a shaker.... nope, it's a Cabezon. Unhook it and release it back. Back at it, bobber down, reel in the little bit of slack at set the hook... I feel that I pulled it right out of its mouth, dangit! I jumped the gun..... NOPE, I must have pissed it off as it came right back at took it hard, re-set. This time it's on. After getting it close to the beach a few times and a few runs back out, I landed it. Next to me is a married couple. Guy rigs up his wife, instructs her, fish on. She lands the fish. The get right back at it, he is saying something to her when bam, fish on again. She limited in maybe 10 minutes. She spends the rest of the time on a log while the husband casts and casts, to no avail. They left with 2. Mean time I am watching my bobber float left to right, when I hear a commotion down the beach a ways. Guy is fighting a large fish. I am transfixed. So much I forgot about my own bobber when suddenly I feel some hard tugging at my rod tip. Took me a second to realize what was happening. I look out and see a very large coho surface, bobber in tow. Dangit, I quickly try and set the hook... gone. Stupid mistake. I had a few more takedowns and fish that got loose sometime during the scrum. Talked to a guy that has been doing well near Marblemount on the Skagit, but he said it's completely blown out. His first time beach fishing and got into one as well. I really wanted that last fish, but.... I had promised the wife I would have a few things taken care of before she got home.

Nice fish! Thanks for the reports. I'm just getting into salmon fishing, and it's nice to have some info.
