Well after some heavy thinking on where to go we ended up at Shilshole boat launch. We arrived at 6 am and got boat in the water and getting things ready to go. Headed north out of the launch just a bit and started fishing, lines down at 35 and 45 ft on the wire. Noticed my starboard light was out so did head to far and kept my rear flood light on so others could see me. No bites at all sun started coming up and boats started to pour in. We trolled around the green buoy no luck so we headed north and got our first fish on. Lost it right at the boat and my son was heart broken I told him it happens. He's 19 yrs old but loves to fish and hunt. He got his line back in the water and after a few minutes the pole starts dancing fish on....small fight and one in the boat. He was excited his first coho very small about 16" but hey we came all this way legal to keep so we did. Tried our luck in the spot and got one more cookie cutter coho this one came on the Coho mojo from Toni at wannafishalure we hooked up three times with that rig and lost two of them operator error lol dad's a little rusty. Two in the boat both small we headed north more towards all the other boats up by the oil rigs.
We changed up our gear to a set up I saw online that someone said was working. Headed past the dock and nothing turned around and headed back south just past the dock and wham his rod is screaming fish on his face is all smiles and this fish has some size to it and 10ft from the boat it rolls and spits the hook bye bye fishy. Reset the gear and we make another pass and again the pole is screaming this time to the boat a nice chinook but to short measured at 21 inches oh the heart break. Well we reset the gear and I make up a set up like his for my rod and within 2 min in fish on for dear old dad, to the boat another short chinook god the fight. Next pass my son gets hit again this time much nicer fish and its jumping behind the boat coming out of the water three feet he does a great job getting it in all smiles big enough to keep.......oh wait extra fin....back in the drink in goes.
We did this again for bit and manage to catch and release fish all to small chinook but we came home with three coho all the small size. But we caught a ton of fish and can't wait to go back and give it another try. My son is hooked on Chinook can't wait tell he hooks into one he can keep. It was a 5 star day for us!! We packed it up and headed home at 5:30pm.
Tight lines.
