Launched at Camano Island State Park at 6:30 am, I live on Camano. Had a bit of fog on the run south, but smooth water all the way . Started out on the east side of Possession, then moved to mid channel, after that Browns Bay no action. Around 9 am the starboard downrigger cable parted at some fraying we had noticed earlier. Lesson learned, always carry an extra terminal repair kit. Now we were down to the port downrigger and a surface line and thinking that our chances of hitting pay dirt were looking pretty thin. Worked our way up north of shipwreck and started trolling south fairly close to shore and picked up a fish on the surface line. After a short fight we had a nice bright 3 pound coho in the box. 15 minutes later the same rod got another hard hit. This time we boated a 5 pound Coho. We made several more passes in the same area but the bite was done. At 1 pm we called it quits and ran for home, 30 mph all the way on very smooth water.
The gear that bought home the bacon was a white and green flasher, a purple haze hoochie treated with herring scent. Had on 6 oz of lead and let out a ton of line.
