We started trolling off Mukilteo this morning about 7am. There were other boats in the area doing the same thing. We marked a few fish, but after a half hour, pulled up and headed over to work the east side of Possession, south of the bell buoy. We had lines down to 55', 50' & 35'. The pole at 55' was the hot pole - chartreuse squid and salted herring strip for bait. Used a Gibbs Red Racer flasher. Caught 2 shakers first, then caught a 3# hen around 9:30am. The other 2 poles didn't do well at all - only one other shaker caught. After 9:30, we weren't successful catching any more fish. Lots of eel grass floating in the water where we were. Had to check lines frequently to clean off debris.

We even tried out off of Satchet Head on the west side of the Bar, but no luck there either.

We did see a few other boats netting fish, but I'll bet many went home empty-handed today.

One fish in the boat is certainly better than no fish! We will get out and try again another day.

Tough going lately for most everyone, marking fish with minimal results, nice going!!

My friend Pat and I also fished the east side of Possession this AM, but we were further south at the SW corner. Today is the third day in a row we fished it. Limited Tues and Wed and got 3 today. They are deep, not shallow like usual, these Silvers are still feeding on herring. Their egg skeins and milt sacks are not well developed, not like most years. Lots of herring balls and fish marks although today was slower than yesterday. 150 to 200 FOW, 100 to 140 on the downrigger. Go where the fish finder shows fish. Fish like you would for Blackmouth. The fishchecker at Everett at 2:00 said 55 boats, 48 fish.

Thanks for the info Barchaser. We will keep pursuing them. One of my friends said they are still coming in and we haven't seen the majority come in yet...so hopefully that means a few more weeks of fishing out in the Sound. We did drop down to 90 feet when we hit the west side of the Bar - lots of birds, we just couldn't get anything to hit on our lines. Current was moving fast too. Anyway, thanks for sharing info.

The old axiom on Possession is fish the east side on the outgoing and west side on the incoming. The thinking is that on the east side the outgoing tide will push nutrients up onto the bar from deep water and attract baitfish, and the reverse on the incoming. The south east side is usually easier to fish, the tide flow isn't as strong as the west side.
