A few times a year I venture out to the Nisqually flats in my kayak to enjoy one of the region's few remaining productive flounder fisheries. I've had success using a variety of rigs but I've had the most luck with 1 oz walleye jigs with chartreuse grub tails coated in herring or shrimp goo jigged along the bottom. The bite was exceptional today up until 10 AM and then dropped off considerably with the incoming tide. I caught 13 Starry Flounder, a few sole, and a couple large Buffalo Sculpin. This is a great fishery for kayak anglers and for powerboaters alike. Be aware of tides and currents before venturing out.
