Off to the pier to go squiding with my new squid jigs. I had hit Ebay up for some very likely looking jigs, including some cool LED flashing ones. I met up with my friend Robbis at 5pm and we jigged until 8:30pm. Tide was outgoing, LT at 9:55pm. Clear and cool, light breeze, very comfortable. There were probably around 50 or so squiders.

The action wasn't fast but there are squid to be caught. I saw quite a few people with 10-20 squid in their buckets. I do enjoy the squid fellowship on the docks. Most everyone is in a good mood, people move around and converge when a few squid are caught, and no one minds (as long as you don't cast over the group and tangle lines).

So how did I do? Well, at one point an Asian gentleman looked in my bucket and said "one squid". I pointed to my bucket and said "amateur". I pointed to his bucket of 20 squid and said "pro". He laughed and said "keep practicing". My friend Robbie got two and lost a couple. Yesterday he got a dozen. So it goes.

I did miss three, and I watched very carefully how the successful squiders did things. Next time I'll try gentler jigging actions, I thing I was too fast and jerky. Oh, and my fancy lights and jigs - nada. KISS...

I love it.. You have been hook-setting on too many Salmon. Must be hard to go back to the feather touch jigging, lol.

Sounds like lots of fun. I have been meaning to try jigging for squid. I will ask my friends how to clean them before i go out trying my luck. I have been crappie fishing and in the spring I would like to get into walleye fishing. Mike I will have to pick your brain on some areas to fish. Happy new year and better luck next time jigging.

Quad...I think you might be on to something! Ha-ha
Mike...Actually I always appreciate the simplicity to your approach in your reports, videos and comments. Always refreshing, and it works!

Thanks,

Mav, thanks, very kind of you to say. Quad, definitely a possibility, it really is kinda hard, like going in slow motion. SL, we have some spring walleye videos in the video section, potholes is always a good bet.

Hi Mike - Not sure if this good "practice" for jigging kokanee at Loon this summer or not.....ha, ha. Looking forward to all of the spring and summer fishing activities. Lake Roosevelt keeps me entertained in the winter; come on over and I'll take you for some of that hot trout action.

No secrets when it comes to squid. We fished the Des Moines fishing pier. Any pier in Puget Sound will have squid. They migrate in starting around Nov. I believe, working their way south sound. I just published this article: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/ReadArticle.aspx?id=613

One thing to again keep in mind, it's not the same as regular fishing. When you see people start to catch squid, everyone will go running and squeezing in to get in on the action. Spots are not set in stone, at least not on the larger docks. It's accepted practice.
