Fished Saturday and Sunday. Talked with a couple people that said it had been flat calm and great fishing the past 3 days so we were super excited.
Saturday- tides were not the best so we launched at 7:30 or so. Up until now it was flat calm like a lake and as soon as we got out there there were 2 to 3 footers all over. Didn't want to motor very far with the waves so only went to 200 feet and caught nothing in the 20 minutes we were there. we knew we were too shallow though. after awhile in camp i called our buddy that was fishing with us to see if it calmed down and he said it only got worse. he was in a 22 foot boat and took multiple waves into the boat he said so we were glad to be in because we were only 16 feet. went out for an evening bite when it got down to 2 and 3 footers again instead of 4 and 5 footers and instantly caught a fish on the lure i tied. it was almost dark so we headed in then.
Sunday today they called a small craft advisory and today there was about 4 to 6 inch waves if that and yesterday there was no advisory. Hmmm? not very accurate. anyway got out there and it wasn't the best fishing but it was alright. at the end of the day got 4 fish. believe it or not i caught more than the ace hi flys and hoochies with my lure that i tied which was cool. had one fish that broke my 30 lbs leader that wasn't kinked or frayed at all so definitely had on one good fish. all were on dodgers with 10 or 12 inch leaders and almost any flashy or glow lure. we used pro cure's blue bait dye with brine'n'bite to toughen up the herring and the blue herring worked better than normal herring. also used pro cure anise bloody tuna gel scent which also really helped.
