fished over the weekend on saturday and sunday.
Saturday- tides wee really bad for where we were launching so couldn't get out until 9:30. i ran a macks lure double d dodger and so did my dad and we both caught nothing so i switched to a shasta tackle sling blade and nailed them. i put a bend in the back of it to give it more kick. right away i caught a wild. i had on a green and glow hoochie about 10 inches behind the dodger. then a little while later i caught another wild. my dad reeled his in to check and the whole time he had on and was trolling a dink about a foot long and didn't realize it. then i caught a hatchery finally and now since my dad was actually fishing he caught one... a wild though. we went a while without a bite and we called it to go for sea bass and my dad really wanted to just reel in the rod then downrigger and i convinced him to crank in the rigger first and let the lyure float through the water column and i did too. as i did that and was reeling in guess what? i caught the bigger fish that was hatchery like that. next we headed to the kelp at pillar for sea bass and only caught one small greenling. only because it was getting rough though and we had to go in. then late in the evening we went out just for greenling and sea bass and only our second fish I hooked was BIG as soon as i got the bite my reel started screaming non-stop and then... SNAP! and he is gone just like that.never got a look but in 20 feet of water and by the kelp and rocks my guess was a really big lingcod. he snapped 30 pound test. we caught about a dozen and only kept 1 big bass though. when we filleted the bigger fish we opened the belly and found the chunk of just tail of herring from my dads rod the cut plug out the back and my herring. i could tell they were our herring because we died ours blue and all of the herring were blue. he hit all three rods and i ended up getting him on the last rod to hit.
Sunday- today for some reason we didn't get a bite even though we did the same thing as the day before. our buddy did good today though. we again caught a couple keeper greenling and bass. all coho were caught in 450 to 500 feet of water at 100 feet on the rigger with green glow hoochies or ace hi flys short behind a dodger not flasher. all bottomfish caught were on the sonic baitfish between 12 and 30 feet deep just off the rock bottom in the sand along the rock.
