Great day! First, I got to meet “The Quadfather”, whom I contacted through this site, and he graciously invited me to join him for some Coho fishing out of Shilshole. So first, I had a great time getting to know him.
Secondly, we did get two Coho each. Overcast and pretty calm, so very pleasant. We started trolling right in front of Shilshole where we got the first Coho, but when we stopped getting bites, we moved north a ways where we caught the others. Fished between 30 and 70 feet on downriggers. We both used some garlic jelly and nice brined herring strips. Chris had a green and chrome flasher and speckled green squid. He tried an old Abe and Al chrome flasher with a speckled spoon for a while, but no luck. I had a UV flasher and coho fly. Since that set up got me the first coho of the day, I stuck with it but frequently refreshed the herring strip and garlic scent. Released two shakers. I was surprised when Chris got a coho on with a sea lion nearby. We went out at 6:30 and back around noon. So I’m giving this trip a 5. Good fishing and great company.
