So I was concerned that the crazy thunderstorm and low pressure during the night was going to take the bite off for the Gig Harbor derby and boy was I correct. Had to get a later start then I had hoped because for some reason my trailer lights were not functioning so I think it is time to replace them with LED ones this week!

We hit the launch at Pt. Defiance at 5:45 and seemed to just miss the rush of boats as we were able to get right in and off we went to Owens beach for our derby troll. Now the game plan was to troll around through tide change and then if no luck, motor over to Brown's point and troll up to Redondo with the outgoing tide for some pinks.

Started out with an Irish cream tailwagger and a cookies and cop car coho killer with herring anise garlic scent. No luck, so put a herring strip in a herring helmet and worked around until about 9am without a bump. Did not see a net fly or even here of a fish caught so boogied over to Browns point and was surprised to see the lack of people on the beach and just a handful of boats working the area. Stared trolling white flashers with a pink coho killer and mini pink squid on the other.
Nothing!! Did not see even a pink caught on the beach. Got over by Redondo and anhored up in 20 feet of water and casted everything in the box at them but finally decided at 1:45 to throw in the towel!

Half way back to Pt. Defiance my main motor decides to quit on me and the tide chop is just starting with a stiff south wind in our face but thankfully my little kicker got us safely back to the launch. Gotta figure this one out as I think it may be the fuel pump which I have been suspecting was on it's last legs.

Didn't hear of too many fish caught so will be curious to see what the derby results were.. My wife is leaving for E. WA in the morning so I will be trying my luck on the Puyallup in the AM!

I'm thinking LED's are the only way to go after returning home from Banks Lake and finding my wiring plug riding on the trailer tongue. I'd forgotten to plug them in after retrieval!!!

We did OK. Lots of dink SMB, a few small Walleye, one 21'' walleye and a few 13'' SMB. We were focused on camping, tubing, swimming. And I sun burnt myself for the first time in years.(ouch) We still had a great couple days.
