We hit westport again this weekend. Saturday was red hot. We trolled from the casino north, to the copalis river. relaeased 6 natives, long line released more than I'd like to admit, and bonked 2 keepers. We limited on Saturday.
Sunday was rough. Rain, wiind and steep swells. Hooked three short kings and some weird bait fish. Let me know what you think. This thing fought hard!

That appears to be a Mackerel. We caught some while chasing Coho at Seiku a few years back and they were very good fighters.

That's a mackerel, agreed. When I used to fish off Vancouver Island you'd catch 10+ of those a day. Warmer currents bring them in.

Haha, thanks guys! Yeah I've had a confirmed id. It's an Opelu.(I like the hawaiian name) Big eyed mackerel. The water was 62 degrees a mile off the beach. Crazy warm!

I can not get over how flat calm the water is for it being the Ocean!!!!! How long does the king fishery generally last?

I know motoboat, crazy huh? We picked a good weekend, weather-wise and fish-wise. It was a bit rougher on Sunday, but not too bad. Kings are open till Sept. 30th, but I catch em well into October when they move into Grays harbor. In August it will be on fire for silvers out there.
