I went squid jigging with my buddy Jordan Saturday night. We were there from about 5-7:30 pm. The dock was packed! We had to kind of jig off to the side, but I got to test a new light. I recently purchased a 1,200 lumen bike light (for walking at night, as well as squidding and clamming) and boy is it bright! Jordan and I put the light in an empty zip tie container and hung it over the dock on a rope about five feet above the water. It was was pretty darn effective. No one got any squid until 6 pm, when Jordan and I pulled a couple up. A few squid were caught by others, then nothing again for an hour. Then right around 7:00 the squidding was excellent. Everyone on the dock was hauling them in-- often with doubles. I caught about 10 squid in 10 minutes. The squidding tappered off a bit, but was still productive after that. Jordan and I had to leave because he was hosting a movie night, but I imagine the productivity continued after we left. I had a huge plate of squid for the Seahawks game, and froze some whole ones for halibut and ling bait!

Awesome! Can you share what light it was? I don't want to buy a light just for the squidding, but if it can do double duty I may be able to justify it

Yep! Amazon has one on sale for $30 right now-- my buddy paid $100 for a similar light. It is called the ATC CREE XML T6 LED 1000 Lumen Bike Light. It says it's 1,000 lumen, but the box it comes in says it's max is 1,200! It's bright-- comes with head straps too! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WPXNQ6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 I am happy with it!
