Went out crabbing for the day with the wife, neighbors and two kids. First time out for my wife so we were hopefull to get in some good action.
We launched from Pt Defiance and had a good smooth 30 mph run south, dodging all those logs and debris fields. We arrived at around 10:45 and dropped the first pots within minutes as they had been preloaded. The tide was already in and it was a whopping 14 foot movement. We have never been skunked down at this location so we set our watch, hit the waypoint markers and dropped five pots. After about 45 minutes, we checked our first pots, nothing... third, fourth and fifth pots, netted just 2 red rock keepers... This was the way it would be all day.. Finally, at around 3:00 pm, we caught our first and only 7" Keeper Dungeness. After hours of fishing, we headed back to Defiance with 6 red rock keepers and one dungeness... Tide was really ripping in and it was super hard to maintain a stead 25 mph. Tide variance was -5.5 to 14 ft. That old shipwreck looked like it was a mile onshore at low tide.
Crazy day with the lack of crab, but a good day on the water with the family and friends...
