Wow! I gave this a 5 rating since our last fish was an 8lb coho- let me start with today was our churches annual area 11 fishing derby and had 2 men assigned to my boat~ after debating on what boat launch to use ( I knew the Redondo launch would be a zoo today) went with Redondo- put in at 4:30am just as they were opening the gates and headed north thinking after doing a little downrigger 101 with the guys would start the troll with the incoming tide from Des Moines back to Redondo but preceeded to go threw tons of salad for about an hour,
Finally after we could finally see the water steered clear of the seaweed and got into fish~ we started targeting kings and coho's using green spatter back hoochie on one set up and Irish cream coho killer on the other but no action.. so decided to go after the pinks and switched to one large and one small white dodger with a pink coho killer on the big one and a mini pink hootchie on the other and wham! it was non stop action until we had our 12 fish limit before 10am with 2 doubles~ pretty even on the set ups...
So after a break back at the launch we headed out to try and get a king or coho~ one set up with a green flasher with cream colored coho killer and the other with U/V spin-and-glow ahead of my special cured cut plug herring and after cleaning off some salad on one of our runs was putting out the line to hook up the the downrigger when I saw some splashing behind the boat and my friend yelled fish on!! I knew it was a silver as it shot into the air and did a top water dance before we reeled it in and netted the first coho of year for my boat..
total count= 12 pinks ( largest 6lb's) and 1 coho ( 8lb's ) 4 fish lost
from what I heard out there, we had the hot boat!
ps- as expected, the launch was a zoo! took an hour and half to get my boat out- oh well, would have been worse if we hadn't caught any fish but boy are there some guys who don't know boat ettiquet
