I think this is a some sort of surfperch - unsure - feel free to speculate. Out on a lunch break and started casting small plastic grubs, low and behold, it was like just like catching a smallie in the fremont canal.

a wonderfully calm day (before the rains rolled in that evening) with a bright pretty fish.

It was about a pound, 12-13 in long.

Does not look like the surf perch which I have caught, nor does it look like a shiner. Can't wait to hear what others think. Thanks for the pic. So.. did it get the frying pan??

So tropical! I donated it to Palisades for their lobby fish pond. Hopefully sleeping with the fishes, um in the way that actual fishes do. The manager offered me a free lunch, so technically I did get a meal out of it! It was like fishing for bass, I could see into the water for structure that the fish were holding to and wham aggressive strike and the fish set the hook for me.

it's a Stiped Seaperch. I used to catch them years ago as a kid off the Anacortas ferry dock when you could fish off of it. They would be mixed in with the Pile Perch. We would always concider it a bonus to catch one because they looked so cool.
