Fished the 18-19 for the coho derby. Thursdays report out of Sea-Q was 19 boats with 75 coho and they went in the Straights. We started fishing the middle of Mukitio ferry line and headed towards the bait box. We got in 300 ft of water and my rod was bounce hard fish on I yeld. It ran for the boat and it was all I could to to keep my line tight. Told my buddy to get the net its coming in fast. It was the bigest fish I had ever caught out there. Well after the net getting snagged on every thing and my buddy stab the fish it turned and ran hard as I was pulling it to the net we lost it. After getting the net un tangeled and my buddy took over steering I went to put my gear down and noticed my hooks were bent almost straight so had to retie. Didnt touch another fish. At the dock a friend of mine caught a fish alsmost 12 lbs and the one I lost was much much bigger. I was thinking in the 14-16 lbs range or bigger. Well sunday hit it hard again and got another hit on the Mukitio side in the ferry lane and lost it about 70 ft from the boat I lost my balance due the the big waves and he spit the hooks. Only 228 fish were weighted at the derby with the biggest out of area 10 at 15.68 I think some where close to that. Every kid that participated got a price even if they didnt catch and everyone that weighted a fish got something. I cant wait for the fish to get here in good numbers.
