Launched out of Shilshole this morning around 7:15 and fished inside the bay for a couple of hours. The bait was everywhere on the surface and a few bait balls showed up on the fish finder as well. I did manage one small silver, about 14” long, and released it thinking I could do better. Silly me, the rest of the fish I hooked in that area were shaker blackmouth. Around 10:00 I headed to Jeff Head and set up shop on the North side. Similar story to Shilshole, I saw fish at 30’ to 45’ and also at 100’ to 120’, the problem was the fish up in the water column didn’t seem to like anything I offered them. The fish lower in the water column were the wrong species and I ended up with a few more shaker backmouth and one fun one in the 6lb to 7lb range. The small silver hit a Army Truck Ace Hi Fly 45’ down on the rigger and the blackmouth pretty much hit everything else. Headed back to Shilshole and trolled around the white can for about 15 minutes with no luck and called it a day around 1:00pm. The checker said it was a slow day, she had 6 fish total, ouch! I must say that the weather was nearly perfect and the water was like glass. Just a hint of wind and overcast skies for most of the day, should have ran up to Possession or Mid Channel Bank!
