Hit the San Juans with the Cooter and finally found some good fish. Fishing was slow, to say the least. We found the first fish (17lbs) on an hour after the incoming exchange just north of Tide Point. The fish had been feeding on 2" long shrimp and tiny candlefish. Marked lots of bait on top and bottom. Can only assume that the bait on the bottom were shrimp. Went cruising the islands during the middle of the day to see the sights and came back through thatcher pass. Stopped dead in our tracks when we saw birds plunging into the water for bait. 15 mins later, fish on! that fish (15lbs) was empty of food. Fishing was not great, but we managed to get our limit in the most beautiful place on the planet.

Nice fish! Thanks for the report too. Were you using lures like the coho killer to imitate the smaller size of the bait, and what depths? Thanks.
