My Pops, Bro, and I took the boat out of Orcas to Sucia Island to get in on the last weekend of Lingcod Season, and we had a blast. We caught quite a bit of smaller lings and some decent size rockfish. My Dad caught a 26 incher keeper on saturday in about 90 feet of water on a white jig with 6oz lead head.
On Monday morning we hit up the east side of sucia and I landed this 30 inch fatty in about 35 feet of water. I wasn't paying attention to my pole because we were admiring a big salmon skimming the water for bait fish, then all of a sudden the ling hit! It was Classic... I thought I was stuck on the bottom at first cause we had lost a few lings earlier that had gone straight to the rocks after being hooked up, but I managed to get it to the boat. I was using a brown speckled scampi jig, 4 oz. lead head, which seemed to work the best.
All in all, good company, great weather, and even better Fishing!
Excited for salmon season right around the corner!
