Back in town for a few days to stay with my brother and do a little fishing. After living in Oklahoma for nearly two years, I was really excited to fish AND enjoy the scenery at the same time. (nearly impossible in Oklahoma) After getting skunked at Tanwax and then Duck lake while trying for Crappie, we decided to head to Ohop. We got a late start, and by the time we arrived at the launch a steady rain was falling, air temp about 49 degrees. For 2 hours we still fished across from the launch, trying for crappie and perch. We even floated some 'trout crack' powerbait off the bottom for awhile. Nothing. So we decide to head to the other side of the lake for some action, and I put on a green wedding ring with 2 small split-shot and tipped with a bit of crawler, just to see if something happens on the way over. After 5 minutes I hooked a 10" bow. I release him and go out again about 30 pulls, and bam! a 12" bow. So we rig up my brother's fishing rod with the same combo, except with a red wedding ring. The trout didn't care! We hooked 11 on the green, and 9 on the red. All in all we averaged a fish every 10 minutes for the next 3 hours, which made for some fantastic fishing. The only downfall was we were so soaked (even with raingear tops) that we were shivering uncontrollably by the time we left. At times the whole boat would be shaking! On a disturbing note, 4 of the planters we landed (all about 300-400 yards to the left of the launch) had these nasty, strawberry birthmark looking bulges on them. Most were about an inch or so in length...some kind of virus? We ended up keeping 5 apiece of the good ones, all in the 11" to 14" range and all with stout bodies. These fish were a wonderful fight, and we were subject to more than a half dozen tail-walks during the melee. Since I was heading back home the next day (and my brother Bob flying with me), we gave the catch to some young guys that were shore fishing. They had recently caught a 17" bow from the right of the launch near the creek mouth, on green "trout crack".
