I got to the dock just after 6am and the spot I wanted was already taken. Therefore, I went down the dock to the next available spot. I readied the crab net and went to the place I prefer, throwing it in.
Preparing my rods for fishing, one for jigs and one for a rotator. I threw out the jig I had tied the night before watching it to see how the action looked. Threw it out again for fish and guess what…got one. I caught 3 in the first hour so I had to release the others since I was still going for crab. The strange thing about this days crabbing is that I hardly had any rock crab. They were Dungeness, mostly soft shell but I got one hard shell male that was 9 inches.
Fishing action slowed down just before the high tide so I decided I wanted my limit so the next one I was keeping. Well that took a while. I had the fish catching net hanging in the water by where I was fishing and the young man next to me keep hooking fish and yelling “get the net” so after his third fish I told him he was going to have to net his own because I had to put my rod down to net his fish when I could see fish chasing my jig. So I got the next fish and he netted it for me and then I packed up my stuff and went home with a limit of pink salmon and 1 large Dungeness crab at 1pm.
In my opinion, jigs are preferred over buzz bombs by the fish.
