Well, this was the last day for my Fiance's Dad to visit and again we headed out to the fishin' grounds in the am. I was a little under the weather, but gosh darn it if that'll stop me from fishin'! This time I decided to launch from Shilshole Marina and head up to Wells Point to Edmonds in search of the talked about Chinook salmon (we had plenty of pinks for the smoker from yesterday's adventure). We had lines in the water a little late today, about 6:30 am just off the oil docks in 220 feet of water, down 89 feet on one rigger; 75 feet on the other; and one line off the back with 10oz lead and an Ace Hi Fly UV Green/White Lightning for the possible Coho. I kicked up the troll speed to between 1.7 and 2.2 mph for the nice spin on the flashers. It was pretty quiet til about 7:30. I had a hit on my rod (89 feet down) and I jumped up and grabbed it. It didn't feel too big and didn't fight like a king either. Got it to the surface and . . . oh, look, another pink! This one was 5-6 pounds and looked like it had just narrowly escaped the mouth of a seal on its retrieve because it was bleeding pretty good from the tail section which had been ripped open! (You might be able to see the gash on the fish in Ann's right hand (the hand furthest from me) as that was the only fish for me). Ann really likes the faster pace of catching fish like we had the day before, so she made up her mind that she was going to just hurry up and catch her limit so she could just relax on the water today. :) Well, her attitude worked. Within 45 minutes Ann had caught her limit of pinks, even though we were targeting Kings. She caught all her fish anywhere from 75 - 100 feet; all with the same setup -- 11" Pro-Troll UV 50/50 Mountain Dew flasher and a Green/Glow Coho Killer with a red Gami hook. We continued to fish in the Edmonds area until about 10 am. We called it quits and headed back to Shilshole. We figured a shorter day was well deserved since we had 15 salmon to show for it!!
Thanks to all the folks who replied to my earlier post and to all . . . Tight Lines and Have Fun with your Loved Ones!!
