Went out with a friend for some basic bottom fishing fun in area 10. We put in at Shilshole around 7:30 am. Motored up to the Carkeek Park area. Fished anywhere from 30'- 150' of water using mostly razor clam meat, shrimp, and herring. The razor clam seemed to be the most effective though. With a limit of flounder being 30 between the two of us,, I think we got about 24-25. I fished mostly used a drop shot rig with the allowable two hooks. Sometimes had double hookups. I was fortunate enough to catch my first rockfish also, pretty small. My partner actually caught a juvenile Blackmouth (shaker) while fishing a small herring tail below a bannana weight. His first salmon....whoo hoo! You really can't miss with this kind of fishing if you are just looking for flat fish. It's one after the other. He also did hook into something that was rather extrordinary. Very heavy fish near the artificial reef. We were quite certain it wasn't a snag, as it would pull,, and then seem to be dead weight, and then pull again. The 20lb leader broke off as though sharp teeth had frayed it. Cool!

As the aforementioned boat pardner, I can say the flounder were plentiful and fun to haul up. The salmon was awesome, the rockfish was very cool, and the unknown Leviathon was about the best thing ever. Whatever it was, it was big and strong and bit through the 20 pound leader. Woo!

Love the crab pot story Crkohrin. Too funny! I'll bet those flounder cooked up nicely. I use to catch them in large numbers off the Shilshole Bay dock back in the early 80's as well as at the Edmonds pier. They were always good eating. Great to hear you had a fun trip. Before we know it we will be soaking crab pots and catchin pinks. I can't wait.
