Went out late evening at high tide to do my daily exercise and keep my casting arm working properly. I had no real goal except casting straight and rhythm, figured I would see nobody I knew and wouldn't likely need a net ... and I was wrong.

I had only been there for 15 minutes casting, retrieving, and babbling with somebody. The conversation kind of went like this:

Annoying passerby: What you doing?
Me: Fishing
Annoying passerby: Catching anything?
Me: Does it look like it?
Annoying Passerby: You ever catch anything off of here?
Me: Yes
Annoying Passerby: What?
Me: Rocks, beer bottles, branches, if the going is good birds, and if really good salmon
Annoying Passerby: What are you fishing for today?
Me: Water molecules
Annoying Passerby: Is that what others are fishing for... I mean yesterday there were 5 people out doing what your doing are they fishing for water molecules too?
Me: No they are fishing for Salmon... I'd say I'm doing the same thing but I not going to get my hopes up too much
Annoying Passerby: If you catch one how you going to get the fish up on the dock?
Me: I'm going to teach the fish to jump or use an anti gravity device... I'll worry about that bridge being out when I get to it.

Suddenly I'm awakened from my fishing slumber by the shake of the fish head and the pull on my line. At that point I realized I was in trouble as I didn't have a net and I really only thought I'd be catching kelp or branches again. In the middle of the fight I feared the Annoying Passerby was going to ask the question: Did you catch that... after watching the whole fight - (its happened before).

I lost the fish but I got to feel the fight and for that short bit of time I knew I had done something right. Next time sharper hooks, a net, and not falling asleep at the rod. Oh and leave Mr. Snarkey at home....
