I went down to Carkeek this morning sunrise wasn't until 7:50 am, I got there at 6:30. Needless to say it was very dark. I began to wonder about how my silver Vibrax #4 lure would stand out in the dark. Fished for awhile. I could hear a few fish jumping, but nothing happening on my end. Eventually I did catch something which really surprised me. A perch.
Perch just aren't nearly as prevalent in the Sound as they were when I was a kid, especially from shore. I know some of you will say they are all around the piers, but not like it used to be.
Anyway, I was so excited that I forgot to snap a picture, sorry. I will say the water was like glass, overcast, no wind, 1/2 doz. fly fisher types showed up, and two other guys throwing gear. I'm still mystified on the rating system. I gave it a 3 star rating, because a 2 star is a bad day. Even though it was 1 fish, it was a good time. Also most importantly the beaches have really cleaned themselves up, as far as the amount of seaweed goes. It was virtually seaweed free.
No sign of chums yet in the creek or shore.
